The objective of the regional adaptation workshop is to develop enhanced skills and knowledge for preparing and supervising the implementation of adaptation projects/programs to address priority climate resilience needs. In particular, the workshop aims to strengthen capacity and skills of the participants by providing information and tools that will assist them in adaptation project concept notes in line with GEF programming priorities and requirements, as well to facilitate access to suitable climate finance from other complementary sources. The workshops will provide insights on the project development process and offer participants the opportunity to brainstorm project concept ideas that may be funded by the Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) in the GEF-8 period. Participants will be requested to identify potential ideas for project concepts in advance of the workshop that can be explored in the brainstorming and concept development sessions.

This virtual workshop targets 15 Small Island Developing States in the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic Oceans (Pacific Ocean: Fiji, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Nauru, Palau, Tonga; Indian Ocean: Seychelles, Mauritius, Maldives; Atlantic Ocean: Cabo Verde). It will be organized in a two-part series with the view to pace the sessions and ensure the maximum engagement of participants with varying schedules and time zones.

The workshop will primarily target participants representing GEF operational focal points, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change focal points, two national adaptation experts, and a civil society representative; but will remain flexible to accommodate the actual number of participants if countries so decide to nominate it. Interested SCCF donors and GEF agencies will also be informed.
