The GEF organized a workshop in Jordan with more than 90 participants from 11 countries from West Asia and North Africa (Afghanistan, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Yemen). The event allowed government officials, implementing agencies, representatives from civil society and youth organizations, and GEF Small Grants Programme recipients to discuss opportunities and strategies to take action on environmental priorities related to biodiversity loss, climate change, pollution, land health, and more. The GEF allocated $124 million to the countries of the two regions for the 2022-2026 funding period.

Participants also visited two local projects: a high-tech lab, run by the Royal Scientific Society, that detects genetically modified organisms; and a nature reserve created around a former stone quarry and that includes a resort managed by the local community.
