About the Report

Charting New Waters: State of Watershed Payments 2012 tracks the size, scope, and direction of innovative financing mechanisms for water resource protection around the world and provides detailed design and project analysis for policy-makers, project developers, investors, and other natural resource managers.

The report uncovers new developments around the world: from building bridges to carbon markets, to financing the switch to agriculture methods that deliver both long-term water and food security, to innovative mechanisms like groundwater offsets or water quality trading systems. Preliminary data indicates that active watershed payment programs around the world have nearly doubled since 2008.
