Maputo, Mozambique, August 1, 2012 - The Expanded Constituency Workshop of the Southern Africa countries began today in Maputo, Mozambique. The meeting was opened by Ms. Marillia Telma A. Manjate, Director at the Ministry for Coordination of Environmental Affairs. She welcomed some sixty delegates representing ten countries, as well as a number of GEF agencies and CSO groups active in the region, and reaffirmed her own country's interest in a continued collaboration with the GEF.
The delegates have arrived from throughout the region – Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, joining representatives from Mozambique.

The three day meeting, held annually, is intended to provide updates on GEF developments and help familiarize the participants with the procedures and resources available to assist them in developing and supporting initiatives for GEF funding. Part of the meeting is also dedicated to engaging the countries in the Overall Performance of GEF-5 (OP-5) exercise led by the GEF Evaluation Office.

GEF facilitated a meeting of CSO representatives ahead of the workshop.
Joining for the first time, the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) was also represented.
