Abuja, Nigeria, 1 October 2013 - The Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for the Coastal West Africa countries began today in Abuja, Nigeria.  The ECW is attended by some sixty delegates representing eight countries, as well as a number of GEF agencies and CSO groups active in the region.  The delegates have arrived from throughout the region – Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

The ECWs bring together GEF focal points, focal points from the main Conventions (Biodiversity, Desertification, Climate Change and Persistent Organic Pollutants), representatives from civil society and representatives from the GEF Secretariat and the GEF Agencies.  

This year’s ECWs have a renewed agenda, with hands-on practical exercises on national capacity development (NCSA), results-based management, and  monitoring and evaluation. The agenda will further focus on discussions regarding the GEF 2020 Strategy and, provide important updates about the preparations for GEF-6 and the replenishment process

The GEF also facilitated a meeting of CSO representatives ahead of the workshop.
