Some 90 participants from international environmental agencies and national governments around the world traveled to Washington this week to attend a Familiarization Seminar hosted by the Global Environment Facility.

Meeting at World Bank headquarters, the attendees, shown in the picture below, participated in seminar presentations on a range of GEF programs, policies, procedures and the various funding opportunities available, with special emphasis this year on aspects related to issues of Biological Diversity.

Many of the participants were GEF country "focal points" – the officials within governments responsible for working with the GEF on country programs -- as well as those responsible for the Convention on Biological Diversity. Representatives of most of the GEF's 10 Implementing Agencies also attended the three-day seminar, from January 17-19.
