Implementing Agency: FAO
GEF Project Grant: 859,091 USD
Built on experiences gained in previous FAO supported interventions aimed at sustainable ground water management, the “Adaptation to Climate Change in Drought Stricken Areas in South India” project aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of communities to adapt to climate change and variability. It covers seven drought-prone districts of Andhra Pradesh with a population of over 200, 000. Support through the LDCF funds bring in additional environmental benefits in terms of broadening the agenda of community capacity for sustainable groundwater management to building community resilience for sustainable land and water management. Currently, the project is mid-way and field testing of key interventions such as participatory climate variability and impact monitoring, farmer climate schools, and sustainable land and water management pilots, are underway.
