42nd Council Meeting - GEF Consultation with CSOs
42nd Council Meeting - GEF Consultation with CSOs

The GEF has just released the new version of "The A to Z of the GEF for Civil Society Organizations," which describes and gives examples of projects and programs that the GEF is financing, as well as provides guidance on the GEF’s structure, partnership, and strategic objectives for the GEF’s operational phase.

It also characterizes the GEF’s role as the financial mechanism for the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), as well as a financial mechanism for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). In addition, the publication provides a detailed guidance on how CSOs can obtain access of the GEF fund and illustrates the requirements applied for project proponent.

This guide is therefore intended to help CSOs and other partners understand how to work with the reformed GEF as it details the procedures and opportunities that CSOs can invest in at the project level and how to engage and participate in the decision-making process at both national and global levels.
