To integrate Nicaragua’s obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) into its national development and sectoral planning frameworks through a renewed and participative ‘biodiversity planning’ and strategizing process, in a manner that is in line with the global guidance contained in the CBD’s Strategic Plan for 2011-2020.

To promote climate smart and sustainable staple crop production through identification, demonstration, and promotion of low carbon and soil carbon sequestration production techniques and practices. The project will focus on China’s three main staple crops under two major crop production systems: the rice-wheat system in Huaiyuan County of Anhui Province and the wheat-corn system in Yexian County of Henan Province.

To assist the Government of the Solomon Islands to implement integrated management of protected and productive forest landscapes for sustainable community development and multiple environmental benefits.

The objective is to build the capacity of farming and forestry stakeholders to mitigate climate change and improve land condition by facilitating the adoption of climate smart agriculture and sustainable forest management policies and practices

(1) Project Objective: to implement sustainable land and water management practices (SLM/W) and resource conservation measures in selected watersheds to reduce vulnerability and enhance adaptive capacity at community level
(2) to strengthen diversified livelihood strategies focusing on crop, livestock and agro-forestry systems at community level in selected watersheds in three most vulnerable livelihood zones

To enhance the resilience of vulnerable rural communities and their livelihoods in mountain areas through sustainable forest management.
Indicators and Targets:
i) # Ha of climate resilient forest ecosystems (restored and reforested). Target: 2000ha
ii) # of communities with increased adaptive capacity to reduce risks of and response to climate variability (AMAT 2.2.1). Target: 24 communities
iii) # vulnerable communities with diversified sources of income. Target: 24 communities

To generate global environmental benefits through improved decision-support mechanisms and improved local planning and development processes in Suriname, by harmonizing existing information systems that deal with the Rio Conventions (climate change, biodiversity conservation, and land degradation) integrating internationally accepted measurement standards and methodologies.

The overall objective of the proposed Enabling Activities (EA) is to review and update the National Implementation Plan (NIP), and have it endorsed and submitted by the Government to the Conference of the Parties of the Stockholm Convention (COP). Participating stakeholders will be able to manage the additional POPs with newly developed technical skills, expertise and awareness.
