GEF Agency Retreat - Spring 2023
The Agency Retreat is a bi-annual meeting that gathers the participation of the coordinators from the 18 Global Environment Facility implementing agencies and the GEF Secretariat. It provides an opportunity to gather all agency representatives for open dialogue on GEF policies, operational procedures, and more.
International Women's Day message
GEF CEO and Chairperson Carlos Manuel Rodríguez:
I am privileged to lead the Global Environment Facility at this critical juncture in history. Every individual is facing the effects of the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution. Addressing these challenges and lessening their impacts on all of us will require a focus on social inclusion, partnerships, and a commitment to human rights. This includes ending the marginalization of half of the planet’s people – women and girls.
The GEF to expand ocean support under new high seas treaty
The Global Environment Facility welcomes the draft agreement reached on Saturday [March 4, 2023] under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction, known as BBNJ.
