Call for expressions of interest: a study on GEF and GCF policies

The GEF Secretariat is seeking to retain a consulting firm or a not-for-profit organization to prepare a study and assessment on the processes and policies of the Global Environment Facility and the Green Climate Fund secretariats.

This study will contribute to the Long-Term Vision on Complementarity, Coherence, and Collaboration (LTV) between the GEF and the GCF, which builds on a joint engagement since 2018 between the operating entities of the financial mechanism of the UNFCCC.

Celebrating three decades of community leadership for the environment

Yoko Watanabe is Global Manager of the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP), which supports community-based efforts to address global environmental issues in developing countries. In an interview, she shared lessons from this work and reflected on her career path, which started with an internship at SGP when it was first established 30 years ago.

GEF CEO welcomes leadership of Colombia in expanding marine protected areas

The Global Environment Facility joined other partners and supporters to celebrate the achievements of Herencia Colombia (HECO) on the margins of the UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon.

HECO plans to ensure the conservation and long-term financing of nearly 30 million hectares of protected landscapes and seascapes, equivalent to 14 percent of the Colombian territory.  

Broad coalition announces support for conserving Eastern Tropical Pacific

A broad coalition of philanthropic, government, and non-government organizations pledged technical and financial assistance totaling more than $150 million in private and public funds, to support Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Panama in strengthening the Eastern Tropical Marine Corridor (CMAR) by creating a transboundary biosphere reserve that will connect and protect biological hotspots and encompass 500,000 square kilometers (193,000 square miles) of ocean – an area slightly larger than Spain.
