Technical Discussion Series: Bioeconomy – a Strategy for Inclusive Green Recovery in the Amazon
This virtual event presented how the GEF-funded Amazon Sustainable Landscapes Program (ASL) is supporting bioeconomy and other nature-based solutions in the Amazon region. The program started implementation of its national projects in 2018, and through its work it is promoting a dynamic nature-based economy, and exploring multiple nature-based solutions under a landscape approach.

GEF climate adaptation funds plan more targeted support
The Global Environment Facility’s member countries have endorsed an ambitious new strategy for its climate adaptation funds, providing increased support for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) as they work to build a more resilient future and implement their national adaptation plans.

At GEF Council, a commitment to lean into hope
Meeting in person for the first time since the COVID pandemic began, the Global Environment Facility’s governing body approved the final tranche of its seventh funding cycle and endorsed record donor contributions for the coming four years as the partnership rallied around the need to invest in improved planetary health.
The GEF Council’s June 21-23 gathering had a distinctly positive tone, with delegates from around the world describing their commitment to work together to prioritize environmental action despite ongoing headwinds from the pandemic and related crises.
Prioritizing financial inclusion in climate-vulnerable countries
Green and inclusive microfinance is an emerging lending category with the potential to boost climate resilience, encourage sustainable practices, and improve livelihoods in vulnerable communities globally, civil society organizations shared in consultations convened by the Global Environment Facility ahead of its 62nd Council meeting.
