Vietnam PARC - Creating Protected Areas for Resources Conservation (PARC) in Vietnam Using a Landscape Ecology Approach
Project to conserve Vietnam's globally significant biodiversity through implementation of a landscape ecology approach to protected areas management. The project will introduce, develop and implement the Protected Areas for Resources Conservation concept which is based on participatory approach, an open consultative process, and the appropriate integration of conservation and development.
Creating A Co-Managed Protected Areas System
The overall objective of this project is to improve effective protection of existing protected areas by encouraging community co-management of these areas. Belize is unique in that it is still dominated by forest cover that provides extensive areas of natural habitat for some 4,000 species of plants, 150 mammal species (15 endangered/threatened), 540 bird species (33 endangered/threatened), and 151 species of amphibians and reptiles, all within a surface area of only 22,965 km2.
Conservation of Biodiversity in the Talamanca-Caribbean Biological Corridor
The project will focus on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in the Talamanca-Caribbean Biological Corridor, an area encompassing five of the twelve life zones of Costa Rica.

Protection of biodiversity in the arid and semi-arid zone in Eastern Georgia is the objective of this project. The project is designed to ensure local land users participation in the design of alternative land uses, and their integration in its implementation. Establishment of the Nuratau-Kyzylkum Biosphere Reserve as a Model for Biodiveristy Conservation
The project intends to create the basis for the conservation of the area's globally important biodiversity and the long term sustainable development of the area, through the establishment of an integrated conservation and local development programme, based on local traditions and capacities. It is intended to act as a model and a 'test case' for new approaches to conserve biodiversity in Uzbekistan and the region as a whole.
Gulf of Gabes Marine and Coastal Resources Protection
This project will develop sustainable use and management plans for the Gulf of Gabes marine and coastal regions in Tunisia. The project would seek to: (a) develop mechanisms for the integrated biodiversity management of the Gulf of Gabes at six pilot sites and implement three of them; and (b) identify the long-term institutional and technical resources required to reverse the current trend of biodiversity degradation through involvement of the communities concerned within a framework of promoting sustainable participatory development.

This grant is a fully blended within the IFAD-funded loan entitled, “Mount Kenya East Pilot Project for Natural Resource Management (MKEPP).”The development goal of this grant is to ensure equitable and sustainable use of nature resources for sustainable poverty reduction. The specific environmental objective is to improve conservation; management and sustainable use of biological resources in the protected areas of Mt. Kenya National Park and Forest Reserve while at the same time ensure equitable and sustainable use of natural resources by farmers in the agricultural areas.
Poison Dart Frog Ranching to Protect Rainforest and Alleviate Poverty
The objective of the project is to promote sustainable cultivation of poison dart frogs for export, so local people can earn a better living from conserving the forest than by cutting it down. The project’s main outcomes are in three complementary areas: forest preservation, poverty alleviation, and frog conservation. The project also supports a few related beneficial outcomes.
Enabling Activities for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): National Implementation Plan for Cameroon
Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i. Prepare the ground for implementation of the Convention in Cameroon; ii. Assist Cameroon in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Convention; and iii. Strengthen Cameroon’s national capacity to manage POPs and chemicals generally.
