Energy Efficiency Measures in the Honduran Commercial and Industry Sectors
The overall objective of the proposed project is to remove barriers to the (increased) commercial use of energy efficient measures and technologies in the commercial and industrial sectors, thereby reducing GHG emissions of electricity and heat generation activities. Specific project objectives are to:·Remove all existing barriers for successful energy efficient pilot projects in the commercial and industrial sectors.
Addressing Land-based Activities in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO-LaB)
This project has a primary focus on the degradation of the marine and coastal environment due to land-based activities. Three objectives have been identified: Reduce stress to the ecosystem by improving water and sediment quality; Strengthen regional legal basis for preventing land-based sources of pollution; and Develop regional capacity and strengthen institutions for sustainable, less polluting development. These three objectives will provide a strong basis for sustainable environmental management in the Western Indian Ocean region in the future.
Lalkisale Biodiversity Conservation Support Project
Overall project goal: to conserve biodiversity of the Lolkisale area as a habitat for migratory wildlife species, to use sustainable the natural resources of its ecosystems, and to share equitably the benefits with local stakeholders, through a joint venture between the local community represented by the Lolkisale Village Council (LVC) and a private sector tourism development company, the Tarangire Conservation Company Ltd. (TCCL). Project's objectives: 1. Strengthened conservation of the biodiversity of Lolkisale area as a habitat for migratory wildlife species. 2.
GEF National Consultative Dialogue Initiative
This project seeks to continue and enhance the efforts of the GEF to: (i) promote in-depth understanding of the GEF’s strategic directions and programming modalities; (ii) strengthen country coordination and ownership in GEF operations and project implementation review, and (iii) achieve greater mainstreaming of GEF activities into national planning frameworks and coordination and synergies amongst the GEF focal areas and convention issues at the national level. The project will also contribute to strengthening the capacity of national focal points.
Large Scale Renewable Energy Development Project
In order to reduce GHG emissions while responding to increasing energy demand and energy diversification imperatives, Mexico is exploring a long-term strategy (to be implemented over the next 7-8 years) to accelerate the commercialization of renewable energy technologies, particularly at the grid-connected level.
Sustainable Transport and Air Quality for Santiago
The project will help reduce GHGs from ground transport in Santiago through a promotion of a long-term modal shift to more efficient and less polluting forms of transport. To that end, the project will support the implementation of the 2000-2010 Urban Transport Plan for Santiago, which is consistent with the overall objectives of the GEF operational program on sustainable transport.
Energy Efficiency Project
The project will contribute to implement a National Energy Efficiency Program (NEEP) and a Competitive Electricity Supply Program (CESP). The NEEP is aimed at building additional capacity in the agencies of the Government of Uruguay (GOU) in charge of EE policy-making and regulations and in other key stakeholders in the EE market. The CESP is designed to test market-based, cost-effective Demand Side Management (DSM) measures and delivery mechanisms aimed at improving the efficiency of the power supply system, reducing fuel consumption and GHG emissions.
Managing Hydrogeological Risk in the Iullemeden Aquifer System
The Iullemeden sedimentary groundwater basin is located in Mali, Niger and Nigeria with minor, non-connected sections in Algeria and Benin. The aquifer system, which covers an area of 525 000 km2 with 31 000 km2 in Mali, 434 000 km2 in Niger and 60 000 km2 in Nigeria, represents one of the major freshwater reservoirs of West Africa and is linked to many humid areas and ecosystems.
Coastal and Biodiversity Management Project
The project would aim to strengthen the conservation of globally significant biodiversity to promote sustainable management of Guinea Bissau's coastal biodiversity for both conservation and sustainable development ends. In conjunction with an IDA credit, this project would implement biodiversity conservation components of the National Coastal Zone Management Plan.
Enabling activity for the preparation of a National Implementation Plan (NIP) on POPs for Burkina Faso
The project is aimed at preparing, through a participatory process, a National Implementation Plan for the elimination and reduction of POPs in Burkina Faso .
