FC-1: Fuel Cells Financing Initiative for Distributed Generation Applications (Phase 1)
Promote commercial use of fuel cells in distributed generation applications. Stage 1 starts with three pilot installations, each as a separate stand-alone deal (and separate Council work program submission), to test the financing and business models for distributed generation investments with fuel cells. State 2, which only starts once the industry achieves specified cost reduction milestones, provides an umbrella financing program for scaling up the financing and business models piloted in Stage 1. Project $18 mil. Stage 1 and $90-135 mil. Stage 2. GEF $9 mil. Stage 1 and $45 mil.

Enabling activities to facilitate early action on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Botswana
The overall objective of the proposed Enabling Activities is to strengthen national capacity and capability to prepare a National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the management of POPs. This plan will provide a basic and essential level of information to enable policy and strategic decisions to be made and identify priority activities that Botswana should undertake in order to meet the requirements of the Stockholm Convention. It will be endorsed by all stakeholders before transmission to the Conference of Parties (COP).
National Capacity Self-Assessment (NCSA) for Global Environmental Management
The objective of the National Capacity Needs Self-Assessment (NCSA) is to identify country level priorities and needs for capacity building to address global environmental issues, in particular biological diversity, climate change, and land degradation, and the synergies between them, with the aim of catalyzing domestic and/or externally assisted action to meet those needs in a coordinated and planned manner.
Building Capacity for Effective Participation in the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) of the Cartagena Protocol
The overall objective of this project is to assist eligible countries in building and strengthening national capacity needed to enable access and use of the BCH in order to implement their obligations under the Protocol once it enters into force. This will also ensure that the Biosafety Clearing-House is operational upon entry into force of the Protocol.
Regional Programme on Electrical Energy Efficiency in Industrial and Commercial Service Sectors in Central America
The main objective of the proposed GEF project is to identify and remove the main barriers that inhibit the implementation of energy efficiency measures in the industrial and commercial service sectors, in order to reduce CO2 emissions and decelerate electricity demand growth, while making the industrial and commercial service sectors more competitive. The focus will be air-conditioning, refrigeration, lighting and motors.
