National Capacity Self-Assessment (NCSA) for Global Environmental Management
Capacity development issues related to the implementation of the three conventions in Zambia, and to environmental management in general, were summarised recently during meetings with stakeholders conducted during the planning this National Capacity Self-Assessment (NCSA) project. Zambia will now build on this analysis in carrying out a full scale NCSA in a transparent and participatory manner. The NCSA will involve a thorough assessment and analysis of Zambia’s capacity constraints and needs in relation its commitments under the Rio Conventions and related international instruments.
Lake Pomorie Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Management Project
This Project aims to promote the sustainable management of the Pomoriisko Lake and wetland ecosystem by fostering a combination of restoration, conservation and sustainable production activities. Through a partnership comprised of an NGO, the local municipality and the private sector, the project will integrate the conservation of globally important bird habitat and unique hyper-saline plant and animal communities with the sustainable management of tourism and the area’s natural resources.
Biodiversity EA Preparation of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, National Reports and Establishment of a National Clearing House Mechanism

Botswana Biological Diversity (ADD-ON)
The add-on project aims to assist the Government of Botswana and its appropriate institutions in the assessment of national capacity building needs for implementing the NBSAP. The add-on project will therefore assess and nationally identify the strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and capacity needs of the various institutions pertaining to biodiversity to meet its implementation objectives.
Enabling activities for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): National Implementation Plan for Costa Rica
Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i. Prepare the ground for implementation of the Convention in The Republic of Costa Rica; ii. Assist The Republic of Costa Rica in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Convention; and iii. Strengthen Costa Rica’s national capacity to manage POPs and chemicals generally.

The project objective is the conservation and sustainable use of globally significant biodiversity across the tundra landscape of the Central Taymir Landscape Corridor (CTLC).
