Design and Execution of a Comprehensive PCB Management Plan for Kazakhstan
Ensuring minimization of PCB releases and subsequent health and environmental impacts through systematic capacity development for sound PCB management in Kazakhstan.
Conservation of Biodiversity and Protected Areas Management
This is a pilot project to strengthen Syria’s capacity to protect and sustainably manage biodiversity in an area of global importance. The proposed project site is under severe threats from continued agricultural expansion, grazing, firewood collection and recreational activities. Proposed activities would integrate sustainable use of natural resources through management schemes and define and implement alternative livelihoods for local communities with the objective of reducing population pressures at the site.
In-Situ Conservation of Genetic Biodiversity
This project will identify and establish in-situ conservation areas for the protection of genetic resources and wild relatives of important crops and forest tree species that originated in Turkey, providing for sustainable in-situ conservation of genetic resources in cereals, horticultural crops, medicinal plants, forest trees, and pasture grasses and legumes through an integrated ecosystem approach. Project components include site surveys and inventories, gene management zones (GMZ), data management, a national plan for in-situ conservation, and institutional strengthening.
CBPF: Ningxia Integrated Ecosystem and Agricultural Development Project
The goal of the project is to contribute to restoring the productive and protective functions of the ecosystem resources of the Helan Mountains/Yinchuan area. The project purpose is to introduce an integrated ecosystem management (IEM) approach for the sustainable and commercial utilization of natural resources (soils, water, vegetation and biodiversity) for agriculture, livestock production and eco-tourism purposes.
Action for a Sustainable Amazonia

The outputs of this project will be a BSAP, the establishment of the Clearing House Mechanism, as well as submission of the first and third national reports1 to the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The BSAP will complement the Nauru-Australia Cooperation Rehabilitation and Development Feasibility Study (NACRDFS) as well as the NEMS and other cross-sectoral plans.
An Indicator Model for Dryland Ecosystems in Latin America
In the face of accelerated land degradation in the drylands, the unique bio-diversity of this biome and the livelihood of dryland residents are increasingly threatened, human migration and specific loss are a non-documented phenomenon. This increases the likelihood of migration, deepening poverty, and further species habitat loss.
