Adaptation Learning Mechanism: Learning by Doing
The project will maximize adaptation learning through implementation of projects under the GEF’s Strategic Priority on Adaptation (SPA), and will generate knowledge to help further guide implementation and improve impacts of GEF adaptation projects. The objective of the project is to provide tools and establish a learning platform for mainstreaming adaptation to climate change within the development planning of GEF eligible countries.
Energy Efficiency Improvements in the Indian Brick Industry
To improve the energy efficiency in the brick production and thereby the GHG emission intensity of the industry and the overall emissions as compared to a business as usual scenario in India, through the adoption of new and improved technologies for production and use of resource efficient bricks in the country.
Transformation of the Rural PV Market (prev. Energy Sector Reform)
to reduce Burkina Faso’s energy-related CO2 emissions by substituting fossil fuels (kerosene and diesel) with solar power to provide electricity services for water pumping together with other attendant basic productive energy services to the targeted rural community users. The project will improve people’s livelihoods by promoting the use of renewable energy (solar PV) to provide potable drinking water and basic electricity services to the rural area, thus reducing the country’s dependency on imported fossil fuels (kerosene, diesel).
Development of National Implementation Plans for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants - Bulgaria "add-on"
Bulgaria is one the 12 pilot countries participating in the pilot project "Development of National Implementation Plans for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)". The project was part of the work program approved by the May 2001 Council meeting. That same meeting also approved the Guidelines for POPs enabling activities. This proposal is for an add-on that would allow Bulgaria to complete the work needed to finalise its NIP. This add-on requested by Bulgaria was envisaged at time of WP approval and CEO endorsement.
Protected Areas Consolidation and Administration
The objective of the proposed project-a pilot-is to consolidate two priority protected areas in El Salvador thereby contributing to the rationalization and long-term sustainability of the protected areas system. Specifically, the project would develop and pilot-test mechanisms for the regularization of communities in and near two priority environmentally sensitive lands (as long as those residents abide by use limitations established in broadly consulted management plans) as part of a long-term comprehensive and sustainable development plan for those pilot areas.
Knowledge Base for Lessons Learned and Best Practices in the Management of Coral Reefs
The overall goal of the project is enhanced capacity within country institutions to learn from previous experiences of other projects and develop and implement coral reef projects which deliver key outcomes effectively and efficiently.
National Capacity Needs Self-Assessment for Global Environmental Management (NCSA)
The Overall objective of the NCSA will be to consolidate capacity building efforts involved in the implementation of the three sister conventions, identify capacity constraints and needs, opportunities, key priority areas for action, strategies and programmes. All these activities will be done through a participatory process, including consultations with key actors in the sector.
Capacity Building and On-the-Ground Investments for Integrated and Sustainable Land Management
The Development Objective is to overcome the existing policy inconsistencies and disconnect between the policy framework for land management and actual needs of land-users by initiating participatory dialogue with involvement of the key line ministries, local government and local land users. The main policy document that sets the framework and identifies the priorities in the management of land resources is the National Action Programme for UNCCD implementation.
Accruing Multiple Global Benefits through Integrated Water Resources Management/ Water Use Efficiency Planning: A Demonstration Project for Sub-Saharan Africa
The Government of Botswana (GoB) requires assistance to facilitate the development of processes, procedures, methods and options for full integration of water resources management and development options across all sectors. In particular, support is needed to identify and develop water efficiency and conservation options to respond to the problem of increasing water scarcity and the need to balance the allocation and use of water resources among different users and uses.
