Preparation of Initial National Communication for the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
The overall objective of this project is to contribute to sustainable development through the integration of adaptation and/or mitigation measures to respond to the negative effects of climate change, within the general planning and strategy formulation processes in the various socio-economic and technical sectors. The immediate specific objective of this project is to facilitate the preparation of the initial National Communication of Sao Tome to the Conference of Parties, in accordance with the provisions of Article 12 of the UNFCCC.

Climate Change Enabling Activity (Addional Financing for Capacity Building in Priority Areas)
Phase II is intended to provide for the continuity of the National Climate Change Programme in The Bahamas by addressing weaknesses and areas not covered by the initial efforts. In many ways this is testament to the fact that national capacity as a result of training and awareness, has been enhanced to the point where the strengths and weaknesses of the initial Enabling Activity’s project design have been identified.

The development objective of this highly innovative pilot project is to improve eco-systems functioning of degraded pasture lands in Colombia, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, through the development of more intensive silvopastoral systems that provide global environmental services and local socio economic benefits.
Partnership Interventions for the Implementation of the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for Lake Tanganyika
The Pilot Phase GEF project allowed to achive the following results: ·ØThe Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the Sustainable Management of Lake Tanganyika completed and endorsed; ·ØThe Transboundary Diagnostic Analysi completed and endorsed; ·ØThe Convention on the Sustainable Management of Lake Tanganyik drafted and agreed upona; and ·ØScientific and Technical Reports on the State of the Lake. Based on these results, the UNDP-GEF, the FAO and the AfDB have agreed that they will work together to bring about the long-term sustainable use of the resources of Lake Tanganyika.
