South Africa Wind Energy Programme (SAWEP), Phase I
The project will identify and address the barriers to large-scale commercial utilisation of wind power and help to establish an IPP-friendly environment. The South African power system relies heavily on coal (+90%) resulting in high carbon emissions. Wind energy is projected as a possible substitute but has so far not been developed in a major way, reasons being several market entry barriers, including the sector policy, (assumed) technology risks and uncovered incremental cost of wind power.
Assessment of Capacity Building Needs to Conserve Biological Diversity, Participation in National Clearing House Mechanism, and Preparation of a Second National Report to the CBD (add on)
Add-on funding will support the Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology (BEST) Commission, obtain national consensus on mechanisms needed to build capacity to manage and conserve biodiversity; expand on its initial participation in the CHM; and prepare a second national report to the CBD.
Biodiversity Conservation and Integration of Traditional Knowledge on Medicinal Plants in National Primary Health Care Policy in Central America and Caribbean
The project will contribute to the conservation and management of medicinal plants in globally significant ecoregions of Central America and the Caribbean. The primary focus of this project will be on forest ecosystems and indigenous and local knowledge.
Generation and Delivery of Renewable Energy Based Modern Energy Services in Cuba; the case of Isla de la Juventud
At pipeline entry: Pilot projects for repowering diesel mini-grids with biomass (primarily from citrus fruit) will be conducted on the Isla de la Juventud, followed by replication to the Cuban mainland and the Caribbean region. Other renewable energy sources besides biomass may comprise part of the project. At WP entry: Capacity building measures on a national and local level should create the enabling environment for large private sector involvement into renewable energy supply in Cuba.
Enabling Activities to Facilitate Early Action on the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs Convention) in Poland
The objective of this EA proposal is to assist Poland to fulfill its obligations under the Stockholm Convention and prepare and endorse its National Implementation Plan on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
Enabling activities to facilitate early action on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in the Czech Republic
The objective of this Enabling Activities proposal is to strengthen national capacity and to enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision makers, managers, industry, and the public at large on POPs to develop a National Implementation Plan. By achieving this objective Czech Republic will meet the obligations of the Stockholm Convention and be enabled to manage the elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
Renewable Energy-based Electricity Generation for Isolated Mini-grids
This project will develop sustainable models for renewable energy based electricity generation and distribution via isolated mini-grids. Initial activities will focus on a carefully selected pilot area, from where replication activities will be designed for implementation in other appropriate areas in Zambia.
Promoting Energy Conservation in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (PECSME)
The PECSME project is proposed to address the barriers to widespread adoption of energy conservation measures and practices in Vietnam’s SME sector identified during the PDF-B funded project design. The project is designed to provide an innovative program approach by integrating a range of complementary components and activities into an overall synergistic program.
