Global Promotion of Youth-Led Enterprises in Off-Grid Renewable Energy with Applications
Over two billion citizens on this planet do not have access to electricity. This project will develop innovative strategies that will lead to employment opportunities for youth while providing renewable energy to their local communities. The project will develop a knowledge base of good practices, and business plans for promoting renewable energies through a community and business development model. The project objectives focus on promoting the use of renewable energy in off-grid rural communities, while simultaneously developing increased employment opportunities for youth.
Integrated Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Management
The project will assist the Government of Gambia to promote active stakeholder participation in biodiversity conservation and management inside and outside key protected areas. The processes and mechanisms will be initially developed in two contrasting sites and their replicability tested in at least one further site during project implementation. Identified sites are the Tambi, Bao Bolong and Niumi wetlands, The goal of the project is to conserve and sustainably manage globally significant biodiversity in coastal, marine and wetland ecosystems in Gambia.
Capacity Building for Small Island Developing States through SIDSNet
The project will serve to highlight the use of information technology in integrated ecosystem management and in sustainable development endeavors of relevance to the Rio conventions.
Ozone Depleting Substance Consumption Phase-out Project : Tranche III - Small Grant Program (SGP) - Residual ODS Phase Out Management Component

Initial assistance to Samoa to meet its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on POPs
The objective of the project is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Samoa to meet their obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including initial preparation of a POPs Implementation Plan, and broader issues of chemicals safety and management as articulated in Chapter 19 of Agenda 21. The Implementation Plan will describe how Samoa will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and undertake remedial actions for POPs contaminated sites in Samoa
Recovery, Conservation, and Sustainable Use of Georgia’s Agrobiodiversity
The project goal is the conservation and sustainable utilization of threatened local plant genetic resources important to food and agriculture in Georgia. The project has two immediate objectives: 1. In-situ and ex-situ conservation of selected local agricultural biodiversity in Samtskhe-Javakheti on a pilot demonstration basis; 2. A strategy agreed and under implementation for replication in other Georgian regions of best practice and lessons learned in conservation and utilization of local agricultural biodiversity.
Effective Management of the National Protected Areas System
The project will provide core strategic support to strengthen the system of national protected areas in Zambia. Interventions have been strategically designed, taking into account the afore-mentioned country context and strategies and identified barriers, to accelerate and fortify efforts in support of this objective. GEF funding through this project would support capacity building activities focused at the systemic and institutional levels, PA system reclassification, and demonstration of new management partnership models at two field demonstration sites.
Strengthening the Implementation Capacities for Nutrient Reduction and Transboundary Cooperation in the Danube River Basin-Phase IProject Short Title:Danube Regional Project Phase 1
The overall objective of this project is to complement and support the activities of the Danube Commission (ICPDR) required to provide a regioanl approach to the development of national policies and legislation and to define priority actions for nutrient reduction and pollution control, with particular attention to transboundary effects within the Danube Basin and the Black Sea.
Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development
This project promotes solar energy in rural areas implemented by successful and well established Bangladeshi institutions. These include, rural electricity cooperatives, community-based organizations, NGOs, microfinance institutions and the private sector.
Nature Conservation and Flood Control in the Yangtze River Basin
The context in which the project has been formulated is a need to mitigate flood events through rehabilitation and conservation of ecosystem functions, while simultaneously enhancing conservation and sustainable use of biological resources of global importance and strengthening sequestration of greenhouse gases.
