Biodiversity and Natural Resources Management Project
The project will support the establishment of effective management for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in, and around, four priority protected areas. The selected areas were identified as national priorities and are representative of all four major biographic regions and provide examples of the main development challenges to biodiversity conservation and protected area management in Turkey. The project provides an opportunity to promote sustainable forest and wetland management and biodiversity conservation in areas which are coming under increasing pressure from development.
Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Management Project
The project will test and refine an approach to achieve sustainable economic development of coastal zone resources through a strategic development planning process that integrates their ecological, social and physical values, and balances the varying interests involved in their management.
Market Development for Solar Water Heaters
The proposed project activities will remove barriers related to i) improving the solar water heating quality, ii) reducing the price and improve affordability, iii) increasing awareness and iv) improving a policy context favourable for solar water heater market development. The GEF support is requested to cover the costs of activities that would catalyze penetration of this medium term market through a promotional phase whereby 100,000 sq.m. would be installed during a 4-year period resulting in direct Carbon abatements of about 350,000 tonnes.
Forest Sector Development Project
The development objective of the overall World Bank Forest Sector Development Project is poverty alleviation through sustainable forest management, which will be achieved through expansion and better management of Vietnam’s plantation forests and the stimulation of small-scale production forestry, particularly by poor, small-holder farmers. The global environmental objective of the project’s GEF co-financed component is to conserve biodiversity of global significance in Vietnam’s Special Use Forests.
Conservation of Globally Threatened Species in the Rainforests of Southwest Sri Lanka
The project aims to protect the ecosystems in the rainforests of Sinharaja and Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya (popularly known as the KDN complex) through community co-management.
Fuel Cell Bus and Distributed Power Generation Market Prospects and Intervention Strategy Options
Fuel cells are a low-emission technology that electro-chemically convert a variety of fossil and bio-fuels or hydrogen into electricity and are suitable for transportation and modular distributed generation applications. Fuel cells are a key technology for the attainment of broad hydrogen energy systems deployment, whish is seen as long term solution to environmental problems including climate change and general air pollution especially from transportation owing to their high efficiency and zero emissions of carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen or any other pollutant.
Conservation of Biodiversity through Integrated Collaborative Management in Rekawa, Ussangoda, and Kalametiya Coastal Ecosystems
This MSP aims to ensure the conservation of valuable coastal ecosystems through the development of a collaborative management system which actively involves local communities, NGOs and government agencies
Catalyzing Conservation Action in Latin America: Identifying Priority Sites and Best Management
The project will identify the priority global diversity sites and catalyze the implementation of conservation action by designing management activities in the following globally significant ecoregions: a) Choco/Darien Tropical forest, b) Eastern Andes Cordillera Real Montane Forest, c) Peruvian Yungas, d) Bolivian Yungas and e) Chaco Savannahs. The project will enable decision- and policymakers to strategically target scarce human and financial resources to areas that have the highest biodiversity values.
Conservation of the Tubbataha Reefs National Marine Park and World Heritage Site
The overall objective of the proposed PDF A will be to prepare and finalize a GEF full project brief and draft full project document. The full project will work to ensure the integrated conservation and development of the Tubbataha coral reef ecosystem by developing and implementing conservation activities as well as providing alternative livelihood options.
