Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Strengthen long term sustainability of the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) managed for the benefit of endangered wildlife/habitats and support of community based conservation and income generation.
Conservation Planning for Biodiversity in the Thicket Biome
The development of a strategic action plan for the conservation of the nationally globally important biodiversity of thicket Biome ecosystems by identifying an optimal protected area system.
Management and Protection of Laguna del Tigre National Park
The goal of this project is to conserve the biodiversity and natural habitats of Laguna de Tigre national Par and Biotopo, the largest core zone in Guatemala’s protected areas system. This goal coincides with that of the Guatemalan government, as articulated in the 1999-2003 Master Plan for the Laguna de Tigre Management Unit (CONAP 1998).
Oaxaca Sustainable Hillside Management Project
The GEF MSP would support implementation of activities designed to address global environmental objectives, particularly those related to carbon sequestration. Specifically, the proposed GEF MSP would support targeted research to: (a) explore carbon sequestration impacts associated with improved land management practices in several production systems associated with the milpa; and (b) determine the social variables that possibly influence the process of adoption of practices to both increase soil carbon content and improve productivity of farmer resources.
El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve: Habitat Enhancement in Productive Landscapes
The goal of the proposed project would be to preserve the biodiversity in the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve buffer and influence zones. The specific project objective would be: to conserve biodiversity and increase habitat in the productive landscape of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve buffer and influence zones by (i) preserving coffee cultivated under diverse shade trees, (ii) reconverting other coffee production regimes, and (iii) promoting other sustainable production opportunities.
Collaborative Management for the Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Northwest Biosphere Reserve
The project seeks to achieve the collaborative management of the Northwest Biosphere Reserve, by building capacity among stakeholders to enable a real involvement of local decision makers at different levels in the management process, with aim of reversing negative tendencies (especially the processes of desertification) and conserving existing biological diversity.
Community Conservation and Compatible Enterprise Development on Pohnpei
This project is designed to assist the Government of the FSM in meeting its obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity through protecting Pohnpei's globally significant terrestrial and marine biodiversity. It will also develop and implement an innovative model for community-based biodiversity conservation based on Pohnpei's Watershed Management Strategy: Building a Sustainable Future: 1996-2000.
Coastal Zone Management along the Gulf of Aden
The project is designed to contribute to the conservation of globally significant coastal and marine biodiversity in threatened pilot sizeable sections of the coastal zone along the Gulf of Aden by promoting an effective and replicable integrated coastal zone management process including the establishment of coastal and marine protected areas based on a strong participation of all the coastal users.
Conservation of Globally Significant Biodiversity in Agricultural Landscapes through Conservation Farming
The objective of the project is to identify and evaluate the ecological costs and benefits of different farming practices/management strategies; to devleop and compare ecological economic models for farming strategies; and to evaluate the role of conservation farming as part of national and regional strategies to conserve biological diversity.
Concentrating Solar Power for Africa (CSP-Africa)
This project will evaluate the possibility of introducing solar thermal electric (STE) technologies as electricity generation options into Southern Africa. The possibility of decreasing the region's dependence on fossil fuels (predominantly coal) by employing a more environmentally preferred option will be quantified. The project objectives are to; (i) evaluate solar thermal electric tech.
