Integrated Assessment and Management of the Gulf of Mexico Large Marine Ecosystem
The full GEF project proposal will address the transboundary concerns of the countries bordering the Gulf of Mexico Large Marine Ecosystem. These will be defined in the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis and prioritised in the Strategic Action Programme (both of which will be completed during the PDF-B intervention). The main objective of this project will be to build the capacity and initiate governmental and institutional arrangements for planning and implementing region-wide efforts to address critical ecosystem and environmental problems in the GOMLME.
Capacity Building of Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) and Preparation of a Second National to the CoP
Add-on funding will support the government of China to obtain national consensus on mechanisms needed to build capacity to manage and conserve biodiversity; expand on its initial participation in the CHM; and prepare a second national report to the CBD.
Assessment of Capacity Building Needs and Country Specific Priorities in Biodiversity (add on)
The activities proposed in this add-on were identified and selected during consultations and national workshops done as part of the BSAP process. They were then prioritised and selected by the National Steering Committee and the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Environment and Industry for submission to UNDP/GEF.
Demonstrating Cost-effectiveness and Sustainability of Environmentally-sound and Locally Appropriate Alternatives to DDT for Malaria Control in Africa
This project will demonstrate cost-effective, environmentally sound, and locally appropriate alternatives to DDT for malaria vector control, ensuring their sustainable use through strengthened national and local capacity for malaria control.
Renewable Energy for Rural Economic Development
This project represents a second, follow-on project to the first Energy Services Delivery project. That first project, to close in December 2002, targeted solar home systems, grid-based small hydro, small hydro village mini-grids, and energy efficiency, and has been one of the most successful projects in the GEF portfolio to date.
Introduction of Climate Friendly Measures in Transport
The project will contribute to the development of policies and measures that will assist in a long-term modal shift from small inefficient vehicles to climate friendly, more efficient and less polluting, less carbon-intensive forms of transport in Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA).
National Off-grid Electrification Programme Based on Renewable Energy Sources, Phase I
The PDF will identify, evaluate and design meaningful avenues to reduce/remove financial, institutional, technical and human resources barriers related to renewable energy based off-grid rural electrification. The overall objective is to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) by promoting the use of decentralized renewable energy systems in areas isolated from the National Interconnected System (SNI) of Costa Rica.
Greater Addo Elephant National Park Project
The proposed project is aimed at improving the conservation of biodiversity in the Greater Addo National Park. The project would specifically support activities to: (a) identify and protect areas of unique biodiversity inder threat; (b) identify the minimum area required to maintain ecological patterns and processes; (c ) reduce critical threats facing the park; (d) develop and implement a conservation plan; (e) promote sustainable ecotourism; and (f) promote capacity building in local communities to develop environmntally acceptable economic activities.
