Enabling activities to facilitate early action on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Lesotho
The objective of this enabling activities proposal is to strengthen national capacity and to enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision-makers, managers, the industry, NGOs and the public at large on POPs to enable them develop and formulate a National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the reduction and elimination of POPs. By achieving this objective Lesotho will meet the obligations of the Stockholm Convention.
Initial assistance to Morocco to meet its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
The objective of this Enabling Activity (EA) is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Morocco to meet the country’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including initial preparation of a POPs National Implementation Plan (NIP). The NIP will describe how Morocco will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and remediate POPs contaminated sites in the country.

The objective of the project is the safe and effective conservation of crop wild relatives and their increased availability for crop improvement in Armenia, Bolivia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan.

The resulting project would provide continuity to a GEF Pilot Phase activity supporting biodiversity conservation in globally significant areas of Peru. The proposal isa follow-up from a pilot phase project. An independent evaluation has been completed and submitted to the Secretariat for review.
Expedited Financing of Climate Change Enabling Activities Part II: Expedited Financing for (Interim) Measures for Capacity Building in Priority Areas
The project is being implemented as an interim capacity-building activity between the Initial and the Second Communications. Hence it is intended to complement activities of the Phase 1 project, related to the Initial Communication, while at the same time forming basis for initiation of the Second National Communication to the UNFCCC.
