Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve's Coastal Biodiversity
The overall objective of this project is to conserve the Gulf of Mannar’s globally significant assemblage of coastal biodiversity and to demonstrate, in a large biosphere reserve with various multiple uses, how to integrate biodiversity conservation into coastal zone management plans. To this end, the Government of Tamil Nadu will establish the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Trust (a Foundation) to ensure effective inter-sectoral coordination and facilitate mainstreaming of biodiversity conservation issues into the productive sector and policy development.
Capacity Needs Assessment and Country Driven CHM project
The additional funding requested will provide support for the assessment of capacity-building needs for priorities selected during formulation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and to implement a country driven CHM project. It is aimed, therefore, at creating favourable conditions for the implementation of strategies in the area of biodiversity. The GEF Focal Point and the implementing agency are satisfied this proposal conforms with the GEF criteria for additional funding of biodiversity enabling activities.
Cost Effective Energy Efficiency Measures in the Russian Educational Sector
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the abatement of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by improving the energy efficiency of Russian educational facilities. The problem addressed by the project is the low attention to energy efficiency measures and inadequate project development capacity resulting in inefficient use of energy and subsequent environmental, economic, and social problems.
Enabling Activities to Facilitate Early Action on the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
The objective of this Enabling Activities proposal is to strengthen national capacity and to enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision makers, managers, the industry, NGOs, and the public at large on POPs to develop and formulate a National Implementation Plan (NIP). DBSB: Wetland Restoration and Pollution Reduction Project - under WB-GEF Strategic Partnership for Nutrient Reduction in the Danube River and Black Sea
The objective of the project would be to reduce nutrient loads in the Danube and Black Sea by restoring floodplain sites along the Danube and the Black Sea coast. The project would finance wetland restoration activities in three priority sites along the Bulgarian section of the Danube: Oriahovo, Belene and Tutracan for a total of 14,200 ha., and several wetlands along the coast, to be selected during project preparation.
