Finalization of the Action Plan on the Environment Component of the New Partnership for Africa's Development
The overall objectives of the action plan are to complement relevant African processes, including the work programme of the revitalized AMCEN, with a view of improving environmental conditions in Africa in order to contribute to the achievement of economic growth and poverty eradication. It will also build Africa’s capacity to implement regional and international environmental agreements and to effectively address the African environmental challenges in the overall context of the implementation of NEPAD.
Assessment of Capacity Building Needs and Country Specific Priorities (Add-on)
The main objectives of this add-on request is to assist the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in completing its comprehensive capacity building needs assessment for country specific priorities, undertaking consultations for the second national report to the COP, establishing a CHM and implementing a country-driven Biodiversity Clearing House Mechanism project.
Development of a National Implementation Plan in India as a First Step to Implement the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
[NOTE: ALL NEW COMMENTS AT TIME OF WP INCLUSION IN APRIL 2007 ARE UNDER THE "SUMMARY RECOMMENDATIONS" COLUMN.] The overall objective of the full project is to develop the NIP for India to meet its obligation with the Convention. To stand by this commitment, the Project will: - Establish inventories on the production, use, trade, stockpiles and wastes of, and sites contaminated by, the chemicals listed in the Annexes of the Convention and existing in India.
Enabling Activities to Facilitate Early Action on the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
The objective of this enabling activities proposal is to strengthen national capacity and enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision-makers, managers, the industry, NGOs and the public at large on POPs to develop and formulate a National Implementation Plan (NIP). By achieving this objective, Malawi will meet the reporting and other obligations of the Stockholm Convention, and will be in a position to manage the reduction and elimination of POPs.
Identification of Capacity-Building Needs for BD Strategy Implementation and Strengthening of the CHM (Add on)
The objectives of this project are: A.Identify the needs for capacity-building in the area of taxonomy; B.Define the needs for capacity-building for the conservation of traditional knowledge, innovations and practices of the local communities; C.Identify the needs for capacity-building for the implementation of general measures for in-situ and ex-situ conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. D.A country driven Clearing House Mechanism project
Biomass Energy for Heating and Hot Water Supply
The goal of the project is to introduce the environmentally friendly option of biomass energy within the context of the current socio-economic system in Belarus. The intention of the project is not to liberalize the economy of Belarus, and therefore the project has concentrated on the willingness of the government to undertake behaviors that will support the rational use of energy.
Removal of Barriers to Biomass Power Generation, Part I
The project aims to increase the use of biomass energy sources for generating electricity for own consumption and export to the grid. It will promote combustion, gasification and cogeneration technologies using different types of captive and distributed biomass resources for electricity generation. Further, the project will induce investments in the three identified major biomass power sectors: cooperative sugar mills; agro- processors and biomass producers; and distributed or decentralized biomass.
Action Plan for Removing Barriers to the Full-scale Implementation of Wind Power
The objective of the project is to reduce identified wind energy barriers to facilitate the installation and operation of the 3 first commercial scale wind energy plants in Mexico with central grid connection. The project aims to reduce annual carbon emissions in Mexico through the installation and operation of commercial wind power plants in Mexico on a massive scale, delivering electricity to certain market niches or directly to the central grid under revised national wind energy contracts. To reach the sought objectives of this project, a phased approach is proposed.
Expedited Financing of Climate Change Enabling Activities Part II: Expedited Financing for (interim) Measures for Capacity Building in Priority Areas
The project is being implemented as an interim capacity-building activity between the Initial and the Second Communications. Hence it is intended to complement activities of the Phase 1 project, related to the Initial Communication, while at the same time forming basis for initiation of the Second National Communication to the UNFCCC.
Energy Management and Performance Related Energy Savings Scheme (EMPRESS)
The project will promote the concept of Monitoring & Targetting (M&T) as an energy management tool that helps achieve substantial improvements in energy-efficiency and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The project will support activities of the participating governments to promote the use of M&T in each country by providing a technical assistance package that addresses the barriers.
