Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i. Prepare the groundwork for ratification and implementation of the Convention in Tonga; ii .Assist Tonga in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Convention; and iii. Strengthen Tonga’s national capacity to manage POPs and chemicals generally.

The objective of this Enabling Activities proposal is to build and strengthen national capacity and to enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision makers, industrialists, NGOs and the general population on POPs. This will lead to the preparation of a National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the Stockholm Convention on POPs, and endorsement by all stakeholders in Djibouti. By achieving this objective, Djibouti will be in a position to manage the elimination of POPs and fulfil its reporting and other obligations under the Stockholm Convention.
Integrating Watershed and Biodiversity Management in Chu Yang Sin National Parkv
The overall goal of the project is to conserve the biodiversity attributes of Chu Yang Sin in the long term and developing integrated watershed and biodiversity management at a broader scale.
Community-based Land Management
The Baseline for this project is the on-going PACV (Village Communities Support Program), which is co-financed by the World Bank (i.e., IDA), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the African Development Fund (ADF), the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Guinean Government. Its main objective is to help reduce rural poverty through capacity-building at the level of the Rural Development Communities (CRD). This project is to be implemented over a period of 12 years, in three phases of four years each. All 303 CRDs are to be affected by the program’s end.

The objectives of NAPAs are: To serve as simplified and direct channels of communication for information relating to the urgent and immediate needs for adaptation. To facilitate capacity building for the preparation of initial national communications, and addressing urgent and immediate adaptation needs, in particular those which have direct relevance with poverty alleviation.
