Enabling activities to facilitate early action on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Rwanda
The overall objective of the proposed Enabling Activities (EA) is to strengthen national capacity and capability to prepare a National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the management of POPs. This plan will provide a basic and essential level of information to enable policy and strategic decisions to be made and identify priority activities that Rwanda should undertake in order to meet the requirements of the Stockholm Convention. It will be endorsed by all stakeholders before transmission to the Conference of Parties (COP).
Enabling Activities for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): National Implementation Plan for Nauru
Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i. Prepare the ground for ratification and implementation of the Convention in Nauru; ii. Assist Nauru in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Convention; iii. Strengthen Nauru’s national capacity to manage POPs and chemicals generally.

The objectives of the current proposal are: 1.To enable the National CBD Focal Point to undertake the necessary consultations for the preparation of the Second National Report; and 2.To complete a capacity needs assessment for the effective implementation of CBD Article 8j in Colombia.

The development objective of the fully blended IBRD-GEF Forest Development Project (FDP) is to increase the contribution of foest to the national economy and to the benefit of rural populations through sustainable management of state, private and c ommunal forests. The global objective of the FDP is to strengthen conservation of forest ecosystems through mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into forest management, and through improved conservation of critical ecosystems.

The objective of this Enabling Activity (EA) is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Sudan to meet the country’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including preparation of a POPs National Implementation Plan (NIP). The NIP will describe how Sudan will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and manage POPs-contaminated sites in an environmentally sound manner.
