This year’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples offers a moment to reflect on how difficult the COVID-19 pandemic has been for indigenous peoples around the world and how much promise there is from ongoing initiatives to support and engage these communities who have much to teach the world about resilience, traditional medicine, and protection of both land and sea.

Mesoamerican countries meet to discuss national and regional priorities for GEF-7
Looking forward to the seventh replenishment of the GEF Trust Fund (GEF-7), a series of meetings are being held around the world to both share information, and get feedback from the countries themselves. This week, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela gathered in Playa del Carmen, Mexico to participate in a constituency meeting and an Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW).

The GEF Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for the constituency of Mexico, Central America and Venezuala took place from 9 to 12 May, 2017 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Attendance:
The GEF sponsored the participation of 7 persons per country, including two GEF focal points (Political and Operational), four focal points for the following Conventions: UNCBD, UNCCD, UNFCCC, and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, as well as a representative from civil society organizations (CSO).
