EAP: Threatened Marine Ecosystems Get Boost from US$4.5 Million Grant from the GEF
WASHINGTON, September 30, 2013 – The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors today approved a project to support the Capturing Coral Reef and Related Ecosystem Services Project, with US$4.5 million in grant funding provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). This regional project will design innovative models for valuing mangrove, sea grass and coral reef ecosystems services to inform policy and decision making for improved environmental stewardship of these critical resources.

Learning from Good Practices: Innovative Approaches to Create Nature-based Livelihood Opportunities
This virtual webinar introduced three projects supported by the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), and GEF Trust Fund, which effectively strengthened resilience and socio-economic benefits in rural communities through innovative approaches to create nature-based livelihood opportunities, while achieving strong global environment benefits including reduction of GHG emissions, restoration of land, conservation of dry forest, and climate change adaptation.
GEF Independent Food Systems Summit Dialogue
The Global Environment Facility organized a virtual Independent Food Systems Summit Dialogue to discuss and reflect on our integrated approach programs addressing food systems transformation. The Dialogue convened key stakeholders from governments, private sector, financial institutions, and civil society organizations engaged with the following GEF programs: Fostering Sustainability and Resilience for Food Security in the drylands of sub-Saharan Africa; Taking deforestation out of Commodity Supply Chains; Coastal Fisheries Initiative; and Food Systems, Land Use and Restoration.
