Celebrating 20 Years of the GEF Small Grants Programme at Rio+20
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 18 July 2012 - The original Rio Summit in 1992 marked the establishment of the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP). Implemented by UNDP and funded by the Global Environment Facility, the programme has supported more than 14,500 community and CSO projects along the lines of environment, sustainable livelihoods and local empowerment in the last two decades.
Regional Workshop of the GEF Small Grants Programme for the Pacific Discussed Implementation Arrangements
The meeting has provided training and guidance on the vision and strategy of the programme, advanced SGP’s results-based management framework, as well as promoted the GEF’s visibility policy across the region. The event was hosted at the Outrigger Hotel in Sigatoka, Fiji, from 27 February to 2 March, 2012.
U.S. Treasury Assistant Secretary Marisa Lago visits GEF Small Grants Programme Project in Rwanda
KIGALI, Rwanda – On February 28, Ms. Marisa Lago, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Markets and Development, toured a project led by women and financed by the Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) in Rwanda. The project is introducing alternative energy sources to wood fuel as a response to climate change and deforestation while improving the livelihoods of the community.
