Communities Conserving Wildlife
This publication provides a valuable account of how participation of local communities in the conservation of threatened species yields positive environmental and socio-economic results. Our planet is undergoing another mass extinction due to reasons widely known, including human activities such as deforestation, hunting, and overfishing. Much of the failure to arrest the loss of nature stem from the fact that the issue is highly complex and often requires concerted and integrated efforts from a range of stakeholders, including government, private sector, and civil society.

Small Grants Programme: 25 Years of Engagement with Indigenous Peoples
As one of the early pioneers working with indigenous peoples, the experience of the Small Grants Programme (SGP), funded mainly by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has been repeatedly recognized as one of the “primary modalities of engagement” (IEO 2017) for indigenous peoples with the GEF.

When a clan chief in Fiji dies, fishing stops for up to a year on part of the island nation’s extensive coral reefs to allow fish stocks to rebound. It is in the new chief’s interest that they do, since an abundant catch when fishing resumes is seen as a portent of his future success.
Launch of the new phase of the GEF SGP: Supporting local actions for green recovery
The GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) is excited to announce the start of its new operational phase - Seventh Operational Phase from 2020 to 2024, with a revamped strategy and renewed financial commitments. The SGP is financed by the Global Environment Facility and other partners and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

She also oversees the GEF Small Grants Programme, which funds community-based environmental projects.
