India formulated the National Action Programme (NAP) in 2001. The various components of NAP have been part of various Government of India programmes over the years. Over time a need has been felt to re-visit and revise the NAP to enable a comprehensive and coherent approach to desertification, land degradation & desertification (DLDD) issues at the national level. The constrains for an integrated implementation of NAP may be the lack of synergy and coordination mechanism between the different ministries, departments, scientific institutes and civil society organizations.

Developing a Strategic Approach to Sustainable Land Management

The GEF-5 strategy in the Land Degradation Focal Area (LDFA) has the following high level goal: To contribute to arresting and reversing current global trends in land degradation, specifically desertification and deforestation. More focus and positive incentives are needed to enhance the LDFA portfolio with ideas that meet emerging challenges and opportunities in rural production landscapes. This specific Enabling Activity (EA) is aligned with LDFA Objective 4, which is to Increase capacity to apply adaptive management tools in Sustainable Land Management (SLM).

National Biodiversity Planning to Support the Implementation of the CBD 2011-2020 Strategic Plan in Argentina

EA Objective: To update the national biodiversity strategy and action plan taking into account the threats that currently cause loss of biodiversity in Argentina, incorporating the global guidelines of the CBD Strategic Plan 2011-2020; and to strengthen its implementation mechanisms.
