Rural Electrification and Transmission
The overall project objectives are to: Eliminate the policy, institutional, financing and information barriers that impede the market development for renewable energy in Cambodia so that rural people can have increased access to electricity services; and accelerate rural transformation by expanding electricity access by offering: (i) technical assistance and capacity building for key stakeholders, and (ii) investments in renewable energy systems for isolated mini-grids using hydro sources and in off-grid solar and village hydro.
National Protected Areas System
The project’s development objective is to contribute to the improved sustainable and equitable management of Ecuador’s biological diversity by strengthening the effective management and financial sustainability of its National Protected Areas System (NPAS). The global environmental objective is to conserve and sustainably manage globally important forest and freshwater ecosystems in Ecuador, one of the 17 megadiverse countries in the world.
Energy Efficiency Project
The proposed project will make Croatia’s economy less energy intensive by establishing an economically and environmentally sustainable market for energy efficiency projects and services. It will do so by creating a core developer of energy efficiency projects within HEP, the national power utility. The new energy service company, ESCO, will promote, develop and finance energy efficiency projects.
Renewable Energy Scale Up Program (CRESP), Phase 1
CRESP is a pilot for the World Bank-GEF Strategic Partnership for Renewables. It takes a programmatic approach to secure long-term structural change. The main global benefits of the project are (a) the removal of multiple barriers to the introduction of cost-effective renewables in China; (b) the reduction in cost and improvement in performance of small hydro, wind and selected biomass technologies; and (c) an increased market penetration of renewables in China and consequent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from power generation.
Local Empowerment and Environmental Management Project - Micro Watershed and Environmental Management Project
The project aims to integrate and adopt environmentally sustainable approaches to management of natural resources within a strengthened institutional framework at local, state and federal levels in the target macro-watershed areas including those within support zones around targeted protected areas.
Demonstration of Fuel Cell Bus Commercialization in China (Phase II-Part I)
SUMMARY This project will help catalyze the cost-reduction of fuel-cell buses (FCBs) for public transit applications in Chinese cities by supporting significant parallel demonstrations of FCBs and their fueling infrastructures in Beijing and Shanghai. In collaboration with the Chinese national government, the municipal governments of Beijing and Shanghai, and the private sector, the GEF and UNDP will assist the public transit companies of Beijing and Shanghai to obtain 6 FCBs each and to operate these over a combined total of 1.6 million km.
Power and Communications Sectors Modernization and Rural Services Project (PROMEC)
The Project will support the Government’s efforts to deepen pro-competition reforms in the telecommunications and electricity sectors, implement policies that will extend these services to the poor in rural areas as well as communication services for small and micro businesses, and adopt programs that foster efficient use of energy and use of RET for rural electrification.
Barrier Removal to Namibian Renewable Energy Programme, Phase I
The project will help to reduce the barriers for the development of the demand for solar technologies and thus mitigate greenhouse gas emissions by addressing institutional, information, human capacity, financial, technical, awareness and other market barriers to increased use of solar energy services by urban and rural households, government institutions, NGO facilities, beverage retailers, communal and commercial farmers.
