The Turkmenistan Republic recognizes the importance of conserving biological diversity and ratified the Convention on 18 June 1996. In the course of transition to a market economy, environmental conscience and awareness is growing and an environmental policy reform is gradually being incorporated into the framework of economic and structural change.
Biodiversity Strategy, Action Plan and First National Report and Clearing House Mechanism
The purpose of the proposed project is to enable the Government of Sao Tome and Principe to develop a biodiversity strategy in compliance with Articles 6 and 8 of the CBD and as a means of identifying priority actions for biodiversity conservation and management. The project will provide the resources to Government to prepare its first National Report to the Conference of the Parties.
Participation in the Clearing House Mechanism of the CBD
This project will assist the national Government to meet its obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity
Fuel Cell Bus and Distributed Power Generation Market Prospects and Intervention Strategy Options
Fuel cells are a low-emission technology that electro-chemically convert a variety of fossil and bio-fuels or hydrogen into electricity and are suitable for transportation and modular distributed generation applications. Fuel cells are a key technology for the attainment of broad hydrogen energy systems deployment, whish is seen as long term solution to environmental problems including climate change and general air pollution especially from transportation owing to their high efficiency and zero emissions of carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen or any other pollutant.
Conservation of Globally Threatened Species in the Rainforests of Southwest Sri Lanka
The project aims to protect the ecosystems in the rainforests of Sinharaja and Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya (popularly known as the KDN complex) through community co-management.
Biodiversity Conservation of Lake Bosumtwe Basin
Bosomtwe is one of the six major meteoric lakes in the world and its ecological uniqueness makes it one of the most important habitats for rare and endemic plant and animal species. The main objective and activities as stated in the proposal are in line with the government's policy of conserving and sustainably managing natural resources and land use in Ghana as contained in the Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan which is currently being finalized.
Restoration of Round Island
Goal: To restore Round Island as much as possible to its original ecological state, and protect it as an example of a sustainable representative Mascarene Island ecosystem practically free of introduced species. Objective: To increase populations of endemic species on Round Island through habitat improvement, erosion control, selective weeding and reestablishment of populations of plants and animals that have vanished because of human intervention.
Dry Forest Biodiversity Conservation
The proposed MSP would build on activities supported under the IBRD/GEF OECS Ship Waste project related to the Grenada Dove. The proposed MSP would take a broader approach, with the goal of promoting the conservation of the dry forest ecosystem and component species of special significance in Grenada. Project activities would be based on effective stakeholder participation, and would include: (1) Environmental education, (2) Ecosystem management, (3) Biodiversity conservation research.
