Good Practice Brief: Innovative Governance for Participatory Design of a Green City
“Asuncion Green City of the Americas – Pathways to Sustainability” is one of the GEF investments aiming to support Asuncion’s ambition to become a green and sustainable city. Through an integrated approach, the project seeks to advance integrated land use planning of the Metropolitan Area of Asuncion (AMA), reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation and waste, reduce unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants, and improve protected area management in the AMA.
Reflecting on 30 Years of the GEF
This publication was produced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Global Environment Facility. With contributions from across the GEF community, it includes reflections from governments, agencies, conventions and other partners on three decades of collaboration. It was launched at a special event held at the end of the 61st GEF Council on December 10, 2021.

The Global Environment Facility’s member governments, meeting on its 30th anniversary, approved new funding to keep advancing international conservation priorities through the pandemic and to bring 2030 goals within closer reach.
GEF-7 Corporate Scorecard - December 2021
The GEF-7 Corporate Scorecard is a comprehensive report on the performance of the Global Environment Facility during the GEF-7 period. In particular, the Scorecard reports on the progress made towards the achievement of the GEF-7 targets. It also looks at how the GEF is utilizing resources made available for its seventh replenishment cycle and making progress in the implementation of key policies. The Scorecard is published twice a year and this issue includes all projects approved from June 2018 up to and including the December 2021 work program.
GEF Council approves $191 million for healthy planet and people
The Global Environment Facility’s governing body has approved $191 million in grants and blended finance to advance climate and nature investments through and after the pandemic.
The funding is the second-to-last tranche to be released under GEF-7, the multilateral fund’s latest four-year funding cycle. It will support initiatives in 43 countries, including 10 Least Developed Countries and 16 small island developing states, that are expected to benefit 25 million local people while generating global environmental gains.
