Within the overall objective of the Stockholm POPs Convention which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will:i) Allow Tunisia to meet its reporting obligations under the Stockholm POPs Convention;ii) Prepare the ground for implementation of the POPs Convention in Tunisia;iii) Strengthen national capacity to manage POPs and strengthen the capacity for chemicals management in general.

The overall objective of this project is to stimulate increased rural sales of PV by increasing consumer awareness and by sharing experiences between commercial markets and projects in region. Specific objectives are to: 1)To create awareness and to put in place the required technical capacity to market, design, install, maintain PV systems for small needs in one rural district of each country. To assist to develop market linkages between the major commercial center (Addis, Asmara, Dar, Kampala) and a selected rural district.

The resulting project would assist the Government of Honduras to conserve and sustainable manage key coastal/marine ecosystems in the archipelago of the Bay Islands (islands of Utila, Roatan, Guanaja, and over 60 smaller keys). The archipelago includes a complex marine system exceeding 500 km2 with barrier and firing corals reef formations juxtaposed with extensive sea grass beds and coastal lagoons. The region is of great biological diversity and the project would complement existing GEF investments in the Mesoamerican Barrier reef and the Belize coastal zone management projects..

The Government of South Africa (GoSA) has developed an innovative program to protect the rich biological heritage of the Cape Floristic Region (CFR). The overall goal of this Program, entitled Cape Action for People and the Environment (C.A.P.E. Program) is that the natural environment of the Cape Floristic Region and adjacent marine environment will be effectively conserved, restored wherever appropriate and will deliver significant benefits to the people in a way that is embraced by local communities, endorsed by government and recognized internationally. The basis for the C.A.P.E.

The objective of this enabling activities proposal is to strengthen national capacity and the enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision-makers, managers, the industry, NGOs and the public at large on POPs to develop and formulate a National Implementation Plan (NIP). By achieving this objective Macedonia will meet the obligations of the Stockholm Convention and will be enabled to manage the elimination of POPs.

The objective of this enabling activities proposal is to strengthen national capacity and the enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision-makers, managers, the industry, NGOs and the public at large on POPs to develop and formulate a National Implementation Plan (NIP). By achieving this objective Croatia will meet the obligations of the Stockholm Convention and will be enabled to manage the elimination of POPs.

[NOTE: ALL NEW COMMENTS AT TIME OF WP INCLUSION IN APRIL 2007 ARE UNDER THE "SUMMARY RECOMMENDATIONS" COLUMN.] The overall objective of the full project is to develop the NIP for India to meet its obligation with the Convention. To stand by this commitment, the Project will: - Establish inventories on the production, use, trade, stockpiles and wastes of, and sites contaminated by, the chemicals listed in the Annexes of the Convention and existing in India.

Funding will assist the government of Colombia to strengthen National Framework for Biosafety, including promoting key targeted research and implementation of the Biosafety Clearing-house.

The Overall Objective of this Project is biodiversity friendly, sustainable development of the Tisza floodplain. The Project Immediate Objective is to establish biodiversity friendly, holistic floodplain management as the dominant development paradigm in the Upper Tisza floodplain.

Add-on funding will support the government of China to obtain national consensus on mechanisms needed to build capacity to manage and conserve biodiversity; expand on its initial participation in the CHM; and prepare a second national report to the CBD.
