The overall goal is derived from that of the National Wetlands Programme to which this project proposal would contribute. The improved conservation and management of globally significant wetland ecosystems in south-eastern and south-western Uganda for both global and national biodiversity benefit. 9 April 2007 The project fills specific gap in the existing protected area system in Uganda by creating a network of small community managed protected areas in the wetlands.

Energy and Environment Upgrading of the Industrial Park of Sidi Bernoussi Zenata, Casablanca

The project aims to achieve water and energy (electricity and fuel) savings in a industrial park in Casablanca by facilitating local ESCO businesses and strengthening the local executing agency, industry association (IZDIHAR) which operates the industrial park "Sidi Bernoussi" in Casablanca. IZDIHAR will receive technical assistance to improve its operation performance, to increase social and environmental services for the park and to take up energy and water saving promotion activities.

Preparation of the POPs National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention

The objective of the project is to strengthen capacity and build ownership in Lithuania to meet the country’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including preparation of a POPs National Implementation Plan. The National Implementation Plan describes how Lithuania will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and manage POPs contaminated sites. The project will enable Lithuania to ratify the Stockholm Convention and become a Party to the same.

Enabling Activities for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs): National Implementation Plan for Madagascar

Project Brief (Revised)
Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i. Prepare the ground for implementation of the Convention in Madagascar; ii. Assist Madagascar in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Convention; and iii. Strengthen Madagascar’s national capacity to manage POPs and chemicals generally.

This grant is a fully blended within the IFAD-funded loan entitled, “Mount Kenya East Pilot Project for Natural Resource Management (MKEPP).”The development goal of this grant is to ensure equitable and sustainable use of nature resources for sustainable poverty reduction. The specific environmental objective is to improve conservation; management and sustainable use of biological resources in the protected areas of Mt. Kenya National Park and Forest Reserve while at the same time ensure equitable and sustainable use of natural resources by farmers in the agricultural areas.
