The rationale of the project is the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and the development of strategic land use planning in the Naya Corridor Sector Munchique-Pinche based on stakeholder participation in conservation and in the establishment of activities encouraging biodiversity-friendly agricultural production.

The Baseline for this project is the on-going PACV (Village Communities Support Program), which is co-financed by the World Bank (i.e., IDA), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the African Development Fund (ADF), the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Guinean Government. Its main objective is to help reduce rural poverty through capacity-building at the level of the Rural Development Communities (CRD). This project is to be implemented over a period of 12 years, in three phases of four years each. All 303 CRDs are to be affected by the program’s end.

The development objective is the setting natural resources management and biodiversity protection in critical ecological regions on an effective and sustainable footing with active participation from local populations and other relevant stakeholders, while at the same time incorporating environmental dimensions in public policy making and investment decisions. The proposed UNDP/GEF and IDA/GEF funding supports the third five-year phase of the Environmental Action Plan (PAE).
