to reduce the vulnerability of coastal communities to the impacts of climate change by strengthening policy and science, and demonstrating targeted local interventions to increase ecosystem resilience.

Project Objective:
The general objective of this project is to promote renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) in Barbados, thus reducing the country’s dependency from imported fossil fuels, enhancing security and stability in energy supply, and improving overall environmental sustainability in the country.

The specific objectives of this project—related to the respective project Components described below—are:

To increase access to energy and information and communication technologies (ICTs) in rural Uganda. Global Environment Objective: To increase energy efficiency and use of renewable energy technologies in order to reduce GHG emissions

Increase the resilience of rural communities in response to the harmful effects of climate change on the water resources and agricultural production systems.

Implementation of the national Biosafety Framework in line with national priorities and obligations to the Cargagena Protocol on Biosafety.

To advance implementation of the PIPA Management Plan 2010 - 2014 through a twin focus on: (i) Core Operation (capacity, infrastructure, zonation, enforcement,tourism, monitoring, evaluation) and Strategic Outcomes (atoll restoration, reverse fishing license, World Heritage site management, climate change adaptation), and (ii) to design and operationalise PIPA's Sustainable Financing System.

To strengthen global portfolio experience sharing and learning, dialogue facilitation, targeted knowledge
sharing and replication in order to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of GEF IW projects to deliver tangible results in
partnership with other IW initiatives.

To introduce energy efficiency (EE) measures in existing and new public buildings by creating a conducive policy environment, increasing user awareness, developing performance criteria and standards, and implementing a broad EE pilot within selected public entities.
