This project will evaluate the possibility of introducing solar thermal electric (STE) technologies as electricity generation options into Southern Africa. The possibility of decreasing the region's dependence on fossil fuels (predominantly coal) by employing a more environmentally preferred option will be quantified.The project objectives are to; (i) evaluate solar thermal electric tech.

The development of a strategic action plan for the conservation of the nationally globally important biodiversity of thicket Biome ecosystems by identifying an optimal protected area system.

This project is designed to assist the Government of the FSM in meeting its obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity through protecting Pohnpei's globally significant terrestrial and marine biodiversity. It will also develop and implement an innovative model for community-based biodiversity conservation based on Pohnpei's Watershed Management Strategy: Building a Sustainable Future: 1996-2000.

The project is to reduce CO2 emissions from burning coal for heating. This is to be achieved by helping super-insulating, straw-bale building technology to be commercially successful on a large-scale in Mongolia. Also, less wood will be burnt for heating, further reducing CO2 emissions and protecting shrubs and forests.

The project will identify and diseminate best practices for conserving and sustainably using biodiversity of global significance in the arid & semi-arid ecosystems of 15 countries worldwide.

The project will assist Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe (all parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity) to conserve biological resources of global significance through a public education and awareness program using local and traditional means of communication to promote incentives for local community participation in implementing the objectives of the Convention.

Protection of biodiversity in the arid and semi-arid zone in Eastern Georgia is the objective of this project. The project is designed to ensure local land users participation in the design of alternative land uses, and their integration in its implementation. The project will complement and enhance proposed protection activities in the target area and coordinate these with neighboring countries sharing sections of the ecosystem.
