This Project aims to promote the sustainable management of the Pomoriisko Lake and wetland ecosystem by fostering a combination of restoration, conservation and sustainable production activities. Through a partnership comprised of an NGO, the local municipality and the private sector, the project will integrate the conservation of globally important bird habitat and unique hyper-saline plant and animal communities with the sustainable management of tourism and the area’s natural resources.

The main objective of this project is to assess national capacities to manage the global management in the DRC. This national self-assessment will determine the gaps, constraints and priorities for the creation, development and reinforcement of individual, institutional and systemic capacities required to better manage environmental resources to ensure that they are used sustainably to support national efforts in the areas of development and the fight against poverty.

Initial Assistance to Niue to Meet its Obligations under the Stockholm Convention on POPs.

The objective of the project is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Niue to meet their obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including initial preparation of a POPs Implementation Plan, and broader issues of chemicals safety and management as articulated in Chapter 19 of Agenda 21. The Implementation Plan describes how Niue will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and remediate POPs contaminated sites in Niue.
