To assist the Government of Kiribati in assessing capacity building needs for specific priorities necessary to protect national biodiversity in accordance with the NBSAP recommendations and the GEF and CoP/CBD guidelines, and to implement a country-driven CHM project.

The project general objective is to assess human and institutional needs for adequate implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and to implement a country driven Clearing House Mechanism (CHM) project in the country.

This Project aims to promote the sustainable management of the Pomoriisko Lake and wetland ecosystem by fostering a combination of restoration, conservation and sustainable production activities. Through a partnership comprised of an NGO, the local municipality and the private sector, the project will integrate the conservation of globally important bird habitat and unique hyper-saline plant and animal communities with the sustainable management of tourism and the area’s natural resources.

The objective of the proposed four-year GEF project is to restore and manage habitats around the lake in order to secure the conservation of the remaining endemic species of Lake Dianchi and its immediate tributaries.

The main objective of this project is to assess national capacities to manage the global management in the DRC. This national self-assessment will determine the gaps, constraints and priorities for the creation, development and reinforcement of individual, institutional and systemic capacities required to better manage environmental resources to ensure that they are used sustainably to support national efforts in the areas of development and the fight against poverty.

The objective of the project is to create sustainable capacity and ownership in Niue to meet their obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including initial preparation of a POPs Implementation Plan, and broader issues of chemicals safety and management as articulated in Chapter 19 of Agenda 21. The Implementation Plan describes how Niue will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and remediate POPs contaminated sites in Niue.

The main objectives of this add-on request are to assist the Government of Kazakhstan to: - Assess capacity development needs in the area of implementation of general measures for in-situ and ex-situ conservation and sustainable use, including national plans, strategies and legislation; - Establish a CHM; - Implement a country driven CHM project.

The objectives of the project is the preparation of a National Implementation Plan for POPs Management pursuant to Article 7 of the Stockholm Convention, and related capacity building.
