Project Brief (Revised)
The overall objective of the proposed Enabling Activities is to strengthen national capacity and capability to prepare a National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the management of POPs. This plan will provide a basic and essential level of information to enable policy and strategic decisions to be made and identify priority activities that Botswana should undertake in order to meet the requirements of the Stockholm Convention. It will be endorsed by all stakeholders before transmission to the Conference of Parties (COP).

Within the overall objective of the Stockholm Convention, which is to protect human health and the environment from POPs, the project will: i. Prepare the ground for implementation of the Convention in Guinea Bissau; ii. Assist Guinea Bissau in meeting its reporting and other obligations under the Stockholm Convention; iii. Strengthen Guinea Bissau’s national capacity to manage POPs and chemicals generally. The project will be executed in a manner to ensuring the overall improvement of chemical safety in Guinea Bissau.

Preparation of the POPs National Implementation Plan under the Stockholm Convention

The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity and build ownership in Albania to meet its obligations under the Stockholm Convention, including preparation of a POPs National Implementation Plan. The National Implementation Plan describes how Albania will meet its obligations under the Convention to phase-out POPs sources and manage POPs contaminated sites. The project will enable Albania to ratify the Stockholm Convention and become a Party to the same.

Project Objectives This NCSA project proposes to develop a comprehensive strategy for capacity building to address environmental management issues at the national and international levels. The NCSA will capitalize on the wealth of information already available in terms of the needs and constraints for capacity building in the RMI. The project will help identify capacity building needs at the individual, institutional and systematic levels of the participating government agencies and NGOs in the RMI.
