To reduce the use and releases of PCBs and other POPs to the environment through the development and implementation of a national PCB and POPs pesticides management system to effectively and efficiently assist Armenia to implement the Stockholm Convention by strengthening the institutions, regulations and enforcement and to enhance the capacities for the sound management of POPs at national and local levels.

Regional Plan for Introduction of BAT/BEP Strategies to Industrial Source Categories of Stockholm Convention Annex C of Article 5 in ESEA Region

The project will produce a detailed plan to enable ESEA countries adopt and introduce BAT/BEP strategies to the industrial priority sectors of Annex C at a regional level through partnering on investments and joint ventures among countries sharing similar sector source releases of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants (UP-POPs). The project will introduce a systematic tool for the industry to assimilate structured decision making through a criterion route of selection and ranking of clean process design, retrofitting and operations.

Environmentally Sound Management and Disposal of POPs Pesticides and PCBs

The objective of this project is to enhance national technical/analytical capacity to address POPs problem and establish environmentally sound management system for disposal of POPs pesticides and PCBs. Based on the prioritization of the issues articulated in its National Implementation Plan, the Government of Nepal is putting major efforts to address the first three priorities mainly obsolete stocks of POPs pesticides, PCBs and public education/awareness.
