The objective of this enabling activities proposal is to develop and formulate a National Implementation Plan (NIP) and thereby strengthen national capacity and enhance knowledge and understanding amongst decision makers, managers, the industry, and the public at large on POPs. By achieving this objective the Republic of Bolivia will be prepared and enabled to meet the obligations of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.

The additional funding requested will provide support for the assessment of capacity-building needs for priorities selected during formulation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and to implement a country driven CHM project. It is aimed, therefore, at creating favourable conditions for the implementation of strategies in the area of biodiversity. The GEF Focal Point and the implementing agency are satisfied this proposal conforms with the GEF criteria for additional funding of biodiversity enabling activities.

The major objective of the project proposal is to strengthen the capacity of biosafety regulatory framework, institutions and stakeholder groups in India, for effective implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, including the assessment, management and monitoring of LMOs and their potential risks to environment and human health.

The project would assist Bio-Itza and Conservation International Guatemala to conserve and sustainable manage a sizable piece of land of great biological significance next to Tikal National Park, and other important areas in the central region of the Maya Biosphere Reserve, one of the largest reserves in Guatemala. It would empower indigenous communities to strengthen control of their land and manage it over the long term.

An add-on ($100,000) has been requested for cover identification of technology needs; capacity to assess technology needs; participation in systematic observation and preparation of programs to address CC.

The overall project objective is to develop a National Implementation Plan (NIP) and provide supporting capacity strengthening such that the Republic of Moldova can effectively protect human health and the environment from persistent organic pollutants and can fully comply with its obligations under the Stockholm Convention: Within this overall objective the following specific objectives have been identified.

The specific objectives of the proposed project are to: (i) promote the strengthening of local environmental and agricultural institutions and communities, by providing them with land-use planning tools for the formulation and initial implementation of an integrated watershed management plan; (ii) promote the integrated management of existing public and private protected areas; and (iii) support the implementation of sustainable activities on a pilot and demonstrative basis that would serve to reduce pressure on key natural resources, and rehabilitate natural habitats, particularly riparian fo

The objective of the National Capacity Needs Self-Assessment (NCSA) is to identify country level priorities and needs for capacity building to address global environmental issues, in particular biological diversity, climate change, and land degradation, and the synergies between them, with the aim of catalyzing domestic and/or externally assisted action to meet those needs in a coordinated and planned manner.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the abatement of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by improving the energy efficiency of Russian educational facilities. The problem addressed by the project is the low attention to energy efficiency measures and inadequate project development capacity resulting in inefficient use of energy and subsequent environmental, economic, and social problems.
