AT PIPELINE ENTRY: The overall development objective of the project is to develop and support initial implementation of a commercially-oriented and sustainable framework for increasing access to electricity and ICT services. AT WP INCLUSION: The global objective of this project is to assist Zambia in removing the barriers to renewable energy technologies to help mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. The development objective is to develop a policy, regulatory, and institutional framework and support its initial implementation to increase access to electricity services.

Provides "patient" seed capital and enterprise development/assistance services to small rural enterprises engaging in providing energy services based on renewable energy. Enterprises’ services are for both household systems and productive uses (income generating activities). Project removes key barriers preventing new or existing enterprises from expanding their services with renewable energy. This approach has been successfully demonstrated over several years by E&Co of the U.S. in particular.

Goal: To ensure the long-term conservation of the Great Gobi ecosystem and the keystone species it supports through improving participation of local communities in the management of the Special Protected Area (SPA). Objectives: The project has 3 main objectives:1Strengthen the management of the Great Gobi SPA.2Improve the stewardship of the buffer zone areas.3Develop and implement targeted responses for the cross-cutting issues of, overgrazing and range deterioration; over-collection of Saxual bushes and downy poplars; declining water resources.

The immediate objective of the project is to prepare the Second National Communication of Brazil to the UNFCCC and carry out studies on vulnerability and adaptation measures, develop regional modeling of climate and climate change scenarios, and build institutional capacity for implementing the Convention in Brazil.

The GEF Alternative will promote integrated ecosystem management, with special emphasis on the conservation of globally significant biodiversity and prevention of land degradation in the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. GEF resources will be used to incorporate integrated ecosystem management objectives, principles, techniques and practices into government policies for land and marine development.

The Strategic Partnership for Geothermal Energy Development is designed with the goal to systematically promote the use of geothermal energy in the ECA Region through assistance in barrier removal, provision of financial support, and capacity building. Partners will be the participating countries in the ECA Region, the World Bank and GEF, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) such as EBRD and other financial institutions focusing on ECA Countries, UNDP and UNEP, as well as multilateral and bilateral donors. The Partnership will be open to any of the ECA Countries.

The primary objective of this GEF project is consolidation and preliminary implementation of the SAP of the Caspian Sea. The TDA team identified five Environmental Quality Objectives (EQOs), which represented the region’s long-term vision for the Caspian. Against each EQO a set of targets (with timelines) was then agreed in order to achieve the objective, and for each target a listing of required baseline and incremental interventions was developed.

An integrated ecosystem management approach for the Seychelles will be developed contributing to key objectives under the national environmental strategy. A number of concrete measures will be developed to conserve globally significant biodiversity, reduce land degradation through better management of land resources, increase greenhouse sink functions, and reduce potential long-term impacts of climate change.

The development objective of the GXPDP is to improve the lives and livelihoods of herders and farmers in the project areas, through establishment of improved grassland management and livestock production and marketing systems, while sustaining the pastoral resources. The project would empower farmer and herder households and pastoral associations to better manage their grassland resources, thereby increasing their incomes through more efficient livestock production and generating marketable surpluses to improve their living standards.
