Over two billion citizens on this planet do not have access to electricity. This project will develop innovative strategies that will lead to employment opportunities for youth while providing renewable energy to their local communities. The project will develop a knowledge base of good practices, and business plans for promoting renewable energies through a community and business development model. The project objectives focus on promoting the use of renewable energy in off-grid rural communities, while simultaneously developing increased employment opportunities for youth.

The goal of the project is to plan implement a sustainable development of the coast of the Gulf of West Korea, with a focus on globally significant biodiversity, human health and quality of life, thus securing a balance between protection of natural resources and environmentally-sound development. It will operate at three levels: (a) at the provincial and national level, planning processes will be enhanced through capacity building, increased public involvement and the development of broad-based planning processes for South Pyongan Province.

The project's objective aims at supporting Chinese Government's plans and programmes to set up protected areas with an integrated and landscape approach and with participation from local communities and various stakeholders, so as to secure the wild relatives of soybean, wheat, and rice, including their natural habitats. In this regard, the project is to bring about best international practices to China for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.

In accordance with the GEF Operational Guidelines for Expedited Financing of Climate Change Enabling Activities, the Government of Chile hereby requests additional interim funds in the amount of US$100,000 to conduct new enabling activities in follow-up to those activities conducted under the country’s Enabling Activity Project (Phase I). These interim funds are requested to undertake an assessment of technology transfer needs and to build capacity for assessing technology needs and modalities to acquire and absorb them in the country.
