GVEP has as an objective the reduction of poverty through the use of modern energy services. The programme in Guatemala has an integral approach, where the need for electric power is identified in all sectors (i.e. education, health, agriculture, communications etc.), and energy is provided to satisfy the identified demand. The proposed full-size project continues this line of action in productive uses of renewable energy, where productivity is geared on a demand basis.

To create awareness, remove barriers and develop strategies for replicability for energy efficiency and energy conservation interventions in the tea processing industry in South India.

The immediate objectives of the project are: i.Identify, confirm or review priority issues for action within the thematic areas of biodiversity, climate change and land degradation.

46.Argentina has initiated implementation of the recommendations of the three global environment conventions. These include a) the establishment of institutional frameworks, b) developing capacity based on national resources and international cooperation, c) the design and implementation of action plans at the national level, and d) reporting progress to the Conventions.

The proposed International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD) is a targeted research project to undertake global and sub-global assessments of the role of agricultural science and technology in reducing hunger and poverty, improving rural livelihoods, and facilitating equitable, environmentally, socially and economically sustainable development.

The goal is to combat land degradation and improve rural livelihoods in the CACs. The objective is to establish the Central Asian Initiative for Land Management (CACILM), a multi-country and donor partnership to support the development and implementation of national level programmatic frameworks for more comprehensive and integrated approaches to sustainable land management in the region.

To reverse land degradation trends in the Gran Chaco through supporting sustainable land management in the productive landscape.
Indicators:
• SFM and SLM practices adopted throughout 500,000 hectareas in 9 demonstration sites and demonstration effects on 850,000 hectares by PY5, thereby reducing land degradation, conserving biodiversity and increasing carbon sequestration.
• The surface areas of biological corridors between Protected Areas located in demonstration sites increase in 280,000 hectareas managed under conservation status and leading to improved connectivity.

This project would be the first "NIP implementation" project funded by the GEF. The project would build on on-going baseline activities in Moldova to implement the priority interventions identified in the National Implementation Plan that was developed over the last two years under the GEF-funded enabling activities led by the WB.

The overall objective of the proposed full-scale Global Environment Facility (GEF) project is to combat desertification and deforestation in Pakistan by strengthening institutional capacity and creating an enabling environment for sustainable land use management as well as through implementation of integrated and sustainable land use management interventions on the ground, seeking restoration of degraded ecosystems.

This GEF project which is to last 5 yearswill contribute both globally and locally to slowing the pace of land degradation; protecting and rehabilitating natural habitats, preserving full agro-forestry ecosystems and their functions, maintaining a protective barrier against the desertification phenomenon, raising the living standard and reducing poverty, reducing massive movements and migration of the populations outside the area, and containing sedimentation in river streams.
