The project will assist the Government of Lebanon, the Ministry of Environment, in developing a NBSAP within the framework of the CBD.

The enabling activity project will allow the NES to prepare a BSAP and a country report for the COP. The project will build on the existing knowledge base and strengthen in-country capacity to develop a BSAP through a process of participatory planning and stakeholder consultation. The BSAP will identify the current status of, pressures on, options for and actions to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in Lesotho.

The project will develop a policy and programmatic framework for the conservation and sustanable use of biodiversity in Oman.

The enabling activity project will help formulate a National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan (BSAP) , and enable Malaysia to meets it obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The global environment objective of the project is to promote, in seven years in two phases the conservation and sustainable use of globally significant biodiversity through the establishment of six biological corridors in the southeast of Mexico. The corridors will be linking ecologically and biologically existing protected areas across the productive landscape. They will contribute to socially sustainable and environmentally sound development through mainstreaming of biodiversity conservation and sound natural resource management in local development processes.

The project will define priority action to conserve and sustainably use Sudan's biodiversity in the context of its social and economic development.

This programme originated from discussions between Government (NES) and UNDP in 1994, leading to a GEF PDF Block A Grant in 1995. Preliminary ideas were outlined in 1995 and early 1996 in conjunction with the development of the Drakensberg-Maloti Mountain Conservation Proposal to be supported by the European Union (also to be executed through NES), and the publication of the LHWP Environmental Impact Assessment and Plan for its Phase 1b. A series of missions, funded by UNDP, have assisted the government to develop the programme proposal in more detail.

The enabling activity project will help formulate a National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan (BSAP) , and enable South Africa to meets it obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity.

This Enabling Activity is to help Peru formulate the strategies and actions necessary for the protection and sustainable use of its biodiversity in accordance with articles 6 and 8 of the CBD, as well as prepare a plan for their implementation.

The project will assist DRC in (a) restructuring the ICCN, (b) rehabilitating back to basic functioning of the protected areas, and (c) initiate the involvement of local communities in the management of its protected areas system to ensure the conservation of its important biological diversity.
